What do children learn when they construct their masterpieces?

Construction is valuable open-ended play. There is no limit to the child’s imagination, adjustments can be made as needed! And, there is no wrong or right answer.

Both fine motor and large motor skills are developed as the child cuts, colours, manipulates and joins materials.

Visual and spatial awareness grows along with the feeling of accomplishment and confidence.

You can help by keeping recycled materials – boxes, old socks, string, old magazines for your child to explore. You are most effective when you discuss the process instead of directing it…

“Do you think that will stick together?” rather than

“That won’t work – it will not stick”

Send us pictures of your child’s masterpieces of construction and we will feature them on our Facebook page.
