New emotions?

Children need opportunities to practice dealing with their emotions. They try out new strategies and ideas and find out which ones work!

Here are three ways you can help:

  1. Play ball! Rolling a ball between you and a very young child builds your relationship and is the beginning of taking turns. Later add names to add to the anticipation.

  2. Dress up - no need for elaborate costumes! Your old clothes and funny hats will do the trick. Play shop, cook yummy meals with toys for ingredients and then enjoy eating them together.

  3. Puppets - make sock puppets and retell stories or make up new ones. Language skills and art..
